This is unlike gel batteries that have an advantage in this sector because of their excellent performance dome. Though AGM batteries keep a charge for a longer time than other batteries, they gradually reduce their charging capacity over time. This means that these batteries cannot be used on several devices. Generally, it is a necessity for batteries that are required to run for a long time under a moderate load to have a high specific load. While these AGM batteries have a high-power output, they have a low specific energy. This, therefore, make them slightly expensive for use in some devices. Even though the cost of manufacturing these batteries has reduced since their introduction into the market in the 80s, it is still generally higher when compared to other battery types in the market. However, they are still cheaper to produce than gel type batteries. Unlike the flooded batteries, AGM batteries have a higher production and manufacturing cost. Therefore, they can be stored for extended periods without needing a recharge.ĭespite their many advantages, AGM batteries, just like other lead-acid batteries, also have their disadvantages. However, in AGM batteries, sulfation is significantly reduced. ![]() Therefore, for other types of lead-acid batteries, it is essential to charge them every six months to prevent sulfation. When this process goes out of hand, it prevents the efficient conversion of chemical to electrical energy. Sulfation mostly occurs when the battery is not fully charged, and thus the crystals continuously build up on the plates. In most cases, it is the cause of failure in lead-acid batteries. Sulfation is the property of lead-acid batteries, where there is a gradual accumulation of lead sulfate crystals in the cells. Furthermore, they can withstand extreme temperature variations.Ħ. Moreover, they are invulnerable to the subsequent wear and tear that may result from frequent and continuous vibrations. The sandwich construction method adopted in their design ensures that their internal components do not fall apart. Because of this property, they are a favorite for high-end motorcycle riders and race car drivers. This means that they have a sturdy design, one that can handle conditions of intense vibrations, just like those in military and commercial aircraft. These AGM batteries were originally designed to serve the aircraft industry. This ensures that one does not have to keep charging them after an extended period of inactivity. This is because self-discharging is minimized in these batteries, unlike other types of batteries, which is a huge problem. Moreover, not only do they serve for a more extended period when they perform the same tasks, but they also last longer when they are not in active use. When compared to flooded batteries of a similar capacity, the charging rate can reach five times faster with the same power source.ĪGM batteries have a longer lifespan than traditional flooded batteries. Due to this feature, these batteries respond better to loading than any other battery on the market.ĪGM batteries, compared to flooded batteries, charge quickly. ![]() This, therefore, enables them to provide sufficient bursts of power when necessary, such as when one needs to start a battery. Rather than absorbing the electrolyte, the glass mats work by holding the electrolyte in place, preventing it from spilling over, even when the battery is placed in odd positions.īecause of the way that they are designed, the AGM batteries have minimal internal resistance. Additionally, it is the function of these glass mats to avoid spillage. Unlike the traditional lead-acid batteries that freely flood their electrodes, AGM batteries have glass mats that prevent this. Additionally, just like other types of batteries in the market, they have their advantages and disadvantages. However, the AGM batteries, compared to flooded batteries, have several significant improvements that make them more efficient. In principle, the AGM batteries work like any other lead battery. Though they were mainly used in military vehicles as a source of back up power and heavy vehicles such as long-distance trucks, nowadays, they have more diversified uses. At the time, they were designed to be a viable alternative to the Ni-Cad batteries, which were very costly. Absorbent glass mat batteries (AGM) have been a market favorite for the past few decades. ![]() "In all the world, there is no heart for me like yours.“Ever since time began, people have recognized their true love by the light in their eyes.” – Paulo Coelhoīrides / Mehroz Kapadia Engagement Quotes from Literature. To feel it everyday without asking how they feel." – R.M. But it wasn’t until a few months ago that I finally read A Stir of Echoes. Well, I didn’t know any of this until about eight years ago, approximately twelve years after I saw the movie. Me: Okay, but did these people “in the know” also realize that Matheson was a prolific writer for the original Twilight Zone series? Well, just one more word = the letter “A”.) Who knew that this guy was a beloved Sci-Fi and horror writer that gave us many books that were turned into movies? Such films include I am Legend, What Dreams May Come, The Legend of Hell House (Book =Hell House, no “The Legend”), The Incredible Shrinking Man (Book = The Shrinking Man, no “Incredible”), and yes, “ Stir of Echoes ” (Book = A Stir of Echoes, this time the author’s title has more words than the film title. Many years later, I discovered this cool author dude named Richard Matheson when I read and wrote about his work Hell House. But you made your point Stir of Echoes is a decent flick. Now I don’t know about that, Arv! They were two different movies, apples and oranges my friend. “Did I pick good, Cheely?” Arvin asked, “Now wasn’t that better than that Blair Witch Project?” It was a chilling ghost story packed with mystery and suspense, taking place in my favorite city, Sweet Home, Chicago! I loved seeing familiar sites up there on the big screen. Anyway, we went for it (Greg stayed home), and to my surprise I enjoyed it. Kevin Bacon, that pretty boy?! In a horror flick? (I had forgotten he had already starred in Friday the 13th way back when)). Quite the spread! Left with much to be desired but still in the mood for a horror movie, Arvin suggested we regroup and see some Kevin Bacon horror movie. I gave it an A, John gave it a B, Greg a C, and Arvin gave it a D. Afterwards we went to a bar where we graded the film over beers. For now, let’s go to the tail end of those 1900 years – the Prince year of 1999.īack in 1999, four guys went to the movies. In this case both will suffice, for I’ll be discussing both the film and the novel! But when doing the latter, be careful not to get overwhelmed in those “Stir of Echoes’! Or is it “ A Stir of Echoes”? That depends on whether we are referring to the book ( A Stir of Echoes) or the movie ( Stir of Echoes). ![]() My first blog post of the new year! 2020! Woo Hoo and stuff! Time to look forward! Time to reflect on the past. In several games Rodgers scored the points to take the lead but left too much time on the clock and the defense gave up late scores. Do these losses say something about Rodgers and his play in those games, or is it more a team statistic? Many of the other close losses happened in Rodgers first season as a starter when the Packers were a poor team. You saw a field goal clank off the uprights on the last play of regulation after Rodgers drove them into position in a minutes time. In Rodgers' case if you look at the games he has lost that are close on the final play you see a team that made 18 penalties and a fumble as time was winding down to give up the losing points. Conversely, the team can be holding onto to a one point lead and then the defense makes a great play and intercepts the ball for a touchdown and now they win by eight points and it's no longer a close win. A team can be behind by 10 points and score a touchdown on the last play of the game to make the final score a three point win and now the quarterback would get credit for a close win. Tonight Rodgers had some good stats but also threw some Favre-like interceptions and looked totally out of sync with his receivers on many instances, but the defense scored a touchdown and made the stand at the end of the game and won him his close victory. Aaron Rodgers has had two close victories this season and both were completed by defensive stands at the end of the game. To give the quarterback all the credit or blame for close wins or losses is unfair to the quarterback and the team. The same can be true for “close victories”. may tell you something meaningful about a game, but usually it has little to do with what is happening on the field. One team can run and run and move the ball but end up never scoring any points, while the other team may throw bomb after bomb and score in a few seconds. ![]() Time of possession can be a great example. The first question is does this statistic even matter in the first place? Football is full of meaningless statistics. |
